Module assembly – a complex bit of engineering
Module assembly – a complex bit of engineering

We assemble modules from a wide variety of materials

The assembly of individual components, modules and systems made of materials as diverse as plastic, silicone, metal/sheet metal and electronic components into complex, in some cases electromechanical assemblies and devices or products is one of the GPE Group’s core competencies.

In the field of component assembly, we offer our customers from the medical technology sector and other industries an extensive technology portfolio. In addition to technical module assembly, this primarily encompasses the assembly of components and modules for medical technology devices and products carried out in accordance with the respective requirements under clean and ultra-clean room conditions up to class 7 according to DIN EN ISO 14644-1 and under ESD protection. In this context, our primary focus is on individually optimised processes.

The GPE Group offers its customers a complete solution from a single source, including product development, tool conception, procurement, production, assembly, testing and delivery in line with your information and requirements – and always to the highest standards of quality. Our module assembly portfolio ranges from standard components, semi-finished products and complex mechanical and electrical components and subsystems to fully packaged, saleable products. Our complete solutions for module assembly include physical (mechanical, electronic, climatic) or fluidic (pressure, temperature, resistance) component and module testing using optical sensors and electrotechnical test benches. If testing equipment and technical measurement procedures do not exist for a product intended for assembly, we will develop and build it and then integrate it into the module production process.

From development to logistics
Performance along the entire value chain

Module assembly for the medical technology industry – from small batches to mass production – is only one component of our extensive range of services.

A focus on the final module right from the start

We can offer our customers technical advice as early as during development of the individual components and with respect to the selection of purchased parts. In doing so, we always focus on the final module’s respective future applications or areas of use, as well as the relevant specifications, standards and regulations from the perspective of the market and from your point of view – and, of course, the required standard of quality.

Automated and manual – always with maximum precision

We automate the component-specific assembly concepts and work steps of a module as far as possible. In most cases, however, assembly activities are performed entirely by hand using manual devices and work steps (e.g. cutting to length, bonding, applying adhesive, screwing, drilling, thread cutting, riveting, bending, tensioning springs, press-fitting, plugging, ultrasonic welding, soldering cable connectors, crimping, PUR encapsulation of connector housings, laser marking, testing, packaging including labelling) and can only be automated to a certain extent.

In-depth surface finishing expertise

The GPE Group has many years of experience and in-depth expertise in surface modification and surface activation of the various components made from a variety of base materials that are used in the subsequent modules. Most components are made of plastic, metal and composite materials, which are coated, painted or bonded in further work steps until the finished module is complete. In this case, targeted surface activation via plasma treatment of the raw materials is absolutely essential.

Packaging and logistics to meet your specific needs

We offer customer-specific packaging solutions and labelling with LOT no. and data matrix coding, which includes the batch no., the expiry date and the respective product code, among other information, either manually or in a semi-automated process using horizontal 3-axis packaging machines.

Fractal assembly lines and shop-floor layouts enable the GPE Group to set up or change the assembly of modules at its sites according to our customers’ specific information and requirements concerning the respective modules and end devices. These structures enable us to respond quickly to fluctuations in customer orders, such as in the case of the coronavirus pandemic, for example.

The GPE Group is more than just a module assembly specialist – it is a full service supplier and tier one supplier to the medical technology industry.
